Weekend in Paris FAQ

Absolutely. Weekend breaks to Paris are a fantastic choice for anyone who wants to spice up the routine or is looking for a romantic setting to spend a few unforgettable days with their partner.

Audrey Hepburn wasn’t wrong when she said that Paris is always a good idea and there is simply no bad time to treat yourself to a short break to Paris. But you need to keep in mind that summer is the peak of the tourist season, and that can place some limitations. If you are planning to go in the summer, you need to book your hotel and sightseeing tours months in advance, be mentally prepared that the trip will be expensive, and make sure that you get skip-the-line tickets whenever possible, as you can spend hours waiting in lines otherwise. When possible, we advise planning your trip for early autumn or late spring instead, as there will be much fewer people around, and the weather will be already nice enough to spend plenty of time outside.

As a rule, three days is the minimum you should dedicate to exploring one city, as this is enough time to visit most of the must-sees, explore a thing or two off the beaten path, and enjoy the atmosphere of the destination. But when it comes to the capital of France, we usually advise travelers to plan a 4-day trip to Paris, as the city is not only a treasure trove of amazing sights but also because there are a lot of must-see landmarks such as Versailles, Giverny, and the Champagne Region in the nearby area. You will need an additional day if you want to add any of them to your itinerary without taking away from your one-on-one time with Paris.

Most travel guides state the 1st district is the best place to stay, especially if you’ve never been to Paris before. And living within walking distance of the Louvre is hardly a bad idea indeed. However, this is also one of the most understandably expensive options. Alternatively, you can consider the districts 4–11, 14 and 16 for your stay, as they also boast good locations and are considered very safe.

Paris has a lot to offer, and seeing all the goodness in one weekend is pretty much impossible. To make the most of your getaway to Paris if you’ve never been to the city before, make sure to add at least one sightseeing tour (Latin, Le Marais, and Montmartre quarters are all excellent choices), a Seine River Cruise, a visit to the Louvre, and plan one day trip if the time allows to see Versailles or the Champaign Region.
