"If there is one portion of Europe which was made by the sea more than another, Portugal is that slice, that portion, that belt. Portugal was made by the Atlantic."

Lisbon Weekend Trip FAQ

The capital of Portugal gets approximately 220 days of bright sunlight every year, which is impressive on its own but not enough to get the city its famous title. As you know, this incredible destination is also set on the beautiful Tagus River, reflecting an enormous amount of sunlight over the city like a big mirror. Plus, Lisbon’s architects favored such materials as white limestone and Portuguese lioz limestone, perfect for reflecting and scattering the light even further. As a result, the city seems to be almost constantly glowing.

Yes, the city is an amazing destination for a short getaway. It has neither the pulsing energy nor the vibe of any other Europe capital, such as London or Berlin. Lisbon is unique in feeling like all other cities combined and like no other place in the world at the same time. It’s home to impressive historical and cultural sights, excellent galleries, and even scenic beaches, so everyone will find something to fall in love with during their Lisbon weekend trip.

Every minute counts if you have only 3 or 4 days in Lisbon. That’s why we always advise you to book hotels in the city center, to make it easier to get around and spend as little time on public transport as possible.

Yes, three days are enough to cover all the city’s must-sees, check out the local cuisine, and get a feel of the place. However, if you want to venture beyond the city borders, a 4-day Lisbon itinerary with one day dedicated to visiting the Pena Palace & Quinta da Regaleira is a perfect choice.

In the city itself – not really, but there are many great beaches in the Lisbon metropolitan area. If you want to go for a swim, you will have to head to Algés, located half an hour’s drive from Lisbon’s city center. But if you are interested in beaches that will take your breath away, book a day trip to Parque Natural da Arrábida or Sintra.

Portugal is one of the most budget-friendly destinations in Europe, and its capital is no exception. For example, a small bottle of water will cost you about 1.10 EUR, a cup of delicious cappuccino is about 2 EUR, and McMeal at Mcdonald’s (or the local version of it) is around 7 EUR.

Overall, tap water in Lisbon is drinkable, so feel free to bring a reusable water bottle and refill it in your hotel instead of buying bottled water in the shop. It’s better for your budget and our planet.
