Florence Getaways FAQ

Yes, Florence is a brilliant choice when it comes to weekend break destinations. This city that pretty much shaped the world is breathing history. Wherever you look, there is something to admire, and masterpieces of Michelangelo, Da Vince, Botticelli, and so many other talented artists are on display. If you are looking for a cultural break, nothing can beat a weekend trip to Florence. However, if you are looking for superb nightlife or want to spend a few days lying on a beach, it’s better to check out other cities.

We believe that the best time for a Florence getaway is from April to early May and from September to early October. During these periods, the number of tourists is significantly less than in the summer months, the prices are not as high as during the peak of the tourist season, and the weather is warm and sunny(-ish), but you don’t have to deal with suffocating heat. If you are looking for the cheapest option, then you should consider going in February – the least popular month among travelers. While the weather doesn’t call for long walks, you can have the sights pretty much to yourself. Organizing a 4-day Florence itinerary in February can cost you as much as a 3-day getaway in the middle of summer if you plan carefully.

Sure, three days is enough to cover all the main sights of the city without rushing from place to place. Of course, it’s not enough time to see all the gems of Florence, but it will take pretty much a lifetime to see everything. But if you want to venture beyond the city limits and add a day trip to your itinerary, we advise you to book at least 4 days in Florence.

Florence is a small city, and if you are living in the city center, pretty much everything is located within 25-30 minutes by foot at most. So you not just can walk everywhere, you should do it if you can, as there is no better way to explore the city.

While taking photographs in museums and galleries is perfectly ok as long you don’t turn the flash on, using selfie sticks is banned in most of the Florentine museums. Another thing to keep in mind is that you shouldn’t allow your children (also your friends, spouses, parents, and yourself) to climb the centuries-old statues or fountains, even if they are set in public places are unguarded and look perfectly steady and climbable. It’s definitely not welcome, and you might get in trouble.

In general, Italy is cheaper than most major European countries, such as the UK, Germany, France, and Switzerland. If we look on a local scale, Florence is a bit cheaper than the other cultural capitals of Italy – Rome and Venice. A small bottle of water in Florence costs about 1.30 EUR, a regular cappuccino 1.45 EUR, and a McMeal at Mcdonald’s is about 9.5 EUR.

We always advise having cash on you no matter where you are going. While most restaurants in the city center, museums, and big chain shops accept cards, there are still places where you can pay only in cash, such as small local cafes, markets, souvenir stalls, and so on.
