         Arrival & Offbeat Florence Tour

Welcome to Florence, the cradle of the Renaissance and one of the most spectacular cities in Italy. Upon arrival, you meet your driver at the airport/train station and head to your centrally located hotel for check-in. After a short break, we’ve prepared several options to choose from, and each is a wonderful offbeat activity showing a side of Florence that rare travelers get to see.

Option 1: Tour of Oltrarno District

An interesting part in the southern part of Florence was crowned as one of the coolest places in the world by Lonely Planet, and yet classic tours to Florence don’t usually include it in the itineraries. Bursting with life and colors, Oltrarno is the territory of talented street artists, and every corner of the place is a living museum of modern art.

Option 2: Florence Love Stories

While most tours around Florence operate in dates and textbook facts, this experience will take you into the exciting world of historical gossip and local legends. Hear about ghost hunting the Duomo, enjoy some juicy facts about the love triangles of the past, learn Florence’s own version of Romeo and Juliet, and visit the houses of the famous lover of the past.

Option 3:  Explore Villa Reale of Marlia

Villa Reale once was the splendid summer residence of Elisa Baciocchi, Napoleon’s sister and the Princess of Luca. Today it is one of the most underrated sights and a fantastic day trip destination, located a 1.5-hour ride from Florence. It boasts lavish interiors, but what the sight is really famous for is the spectacular garden, often referred to as the most beautiful in Tuscany.

Option 4: Medici’s Family Quarter & Italian Cocktail Class

Dive into the exciting world of Italian drinks, become a bartender for a day, and learn how to make the most beloved cocktails – sparkling Spritz and rich Negroni. Join a friendly local who will show you the Piazza Duomo as you’ve never seen it before and take you to a bar in the Medici’s Quarter for an exciting master class.

FLORENCE TRAVEL TIPS

– Florence is home to hundreds of small shops where local artisans offer their goods. And it’s completely ok to haggle,  the chances are that the owner will make concessions. However, it only works if you pay in cash.

– Italy is the birthplace of many delicious things, including mouthwatering gelato. However, not all gelato stalls you see on the streets offer an authentic treat. If you see brightly-colored mountains of gelato on display, you can be sure that it is a tourist trap and not a traditional recipe. Real gelatos are kept in metal tins and should be pale in color.

-Of course, you can find popular coffee chains like Starbucks in Florence, but finding a local in such establishments can be quite a challenge. To try the authentic Italian way, head to the nearest bar and gulp your drink right at the bar counter.
