Christmas Weekend Breaks FAQ
Christmas is a very special time to go to Europe, when the streets are draped in hundreds of lights, you can find beautiful Christmas trees on the central city’s squares as on display in every shop’s window, and you are never far away from a mug of hot mulled wine. Whether you want to find your way into the Christmas spirit or take advantage of the empty world-class museums – going on a Christmas mini-break to Europe is a wonderful idea.
When it comes to Christmas city breaks, Europe famously has a lot to offer. Austria, Germany, Switzerland, Finland, and the Netherlands – all these countries are known as the ultimate advent travel destinations. Each has something unique to offer, be it a visit the Santa’s Village to meet Father Christmas himself or admire the biggest Christmas tree. So, if you tell us what you have in mind for this festive time of year, we will be happy to match you with your perfect travel destination.
You can find this magical sight in Rovaniemi, Finland. But you don’t have to wait till December to visit this amazing place – it’s open every day of the year, as neither Santa nor his elves have the days off. But December is a hectic time for the village, as you can imagine, so make sure to plan your Christmas getaway to Europe far in advance.
Only one city can officially boast the honorable title of the Capital of Christmas – Strasbourg in France. This place is the embodiment of the Christmas spirit, and it’s famous for hosting one of the world’s oldest and most beautiful Christmas markets. If there is something more Christmasy than Strasbourg, it’s probably only the Santa Village in Rovaniemi, the official residence of Father Christmas. In the picture, Strasbourg is surely the ultimate Christmas market weekend break destination. But in reality, it can get almost unbelievably crowded in December, and throngs so thick it’s hard to breathe can rain on one’s parade. If you don’t have a goal to visit Strasbourg’s Christmas market in particular, a getaway to Munich might be a good alternative.
As a rule, the Christmas markets in Europe begin at the beginning of December and welcome visitors until Christmas Eve or Boxing Day. To make sure that you haven’t come on your Christmas weekend break to Europe too early, plan your visit no sooner than December 10th.
